Karren grabs 2nd at the Marlin Coast Challenge.

This weekend one of my clients Karren MacClure competed in the Marlin Coast Challenge , a 38km OC1/OC2/Surf Ski relay race from Ellis Beach to Port Douglas( For those who don’t know what I’m talking about OC1 = single person outrigger canoe, OC2= 2 man outrigger canoe, OC6 is a 6 man outrigger canoe).

The event( a downwind race) took place on Saturday and there were 74 entrants from all over the state, so alot of tough competition.

Karren was competing in the Master Women’s OC1 changeover (with her team mate Monz from Port Douglas), and conditions were really good with 20 knot winds  but as the race went on rough conditions came into play and took their toll on the novices competing in the race with 8 canoes damaged, forcing them to retire from the race.

Karren managed to work her way through these tough conditions and beat off some stiff competition to claim 2nd place in their race!!

WELL DONE!!, and it goes to show that all the hard work Karren has put in to  her preperation has paid off. Karren comes to every session and gives it 150% even when she had the flu and people were dropping like flies, she battled through it and this determination and effort has reaped its rewards.

So whats next for Karren? back into the OC6, heading to Raratonga, Cook Islands for a week of racing in November.  500m sprints, 16km marathon and 38km changeover race. Sounds super tough.

Congratulations Kaz,  great work, lets get the training done in the gym and get you ready to smash it at the Cook Islands.
